Pond Liners or Dam Liners..?
There are many uses for dams and ponds, ranging from ornamental ponds in the backyard to commercial reservoirs covering many acres. The one thing that they all have in common is the need to hold water with as little loss as possible through seepage. Pond liners or dam liners are generally required where:

• The natural ground is rock

• Fine clay is difficult to obtain

• Water is in short supply

• Underground faults exist

• Water or ground is toxic

• A small pond is to be installed

What Types of Pond Liners or Dam Liners are Most Suitable..?

Reinforced Polyfabrics: Best known for their use in tarpaulins, polyfabrics are the most frequently used fabrics for small to medium sized pond liners and dam liners. Whilst the fabric is narrow (around 2m), it is easily welded into sheets of almost any size. The fabric consists of a woven scrim, laminated on both sides with a plastic membrane. The scrim gives it an amazing tear strength whilst the double membrane gives good protection against small scratches and cuts.

The most common use for Dam Covers is either:

• Odour Control

• Evaporation Reduction

• Predator Control

Dam covers are almost always made from shadecloth, the reason being waterproof fabrics would tend to pond and fill with water and eventually sink into the dam. The grade of shadecloth (percentage), varies in accordance with theapplication. Predator control over an aquaculture pond maybe as lite as 18% (bird net), the main purpose is to keep birds out, where as odour control and evaporation prevention covers maybe as heavy as 80% - 90% shadecloth.
